Ready To Wear: No woman should ever be dictated to by fashion

Susannah Frankel: 'As an observer of humanity, Tom Phillips's thoughts are second to none'

This week I have stumbled upon the perfect gift for the sartorially discerning man. Menswear: Classic Style From the First Half of the 20th Century is a new book comprising a collection of photo postcards, dating from around 1900-1945, that brings together images of men of style in formal or not so formal fashions and/or circumstances, all edited from the collection of the fine artist Tom Phillips.

Ready To Wear: Editors take note... this look is flat rather than fat

Today, with our collective consciousness so saturated with fashion imagery that it's sometimes difficult to give the best the attention they deserve, those that truly resonate are the ones that make you think long after they first appear and which merit revisiting time and again.

Susannah Frankel: 'Any actual austerity is image-based, a nod to the circumstances'

Ready To Wear: Poor Hedi Slimane, let's give the boy a chance

Fashion is a mercilessly fast-moving creature and even the most gifted designers step in and out of it only at their peril.

Lagerfeld's latest big idea: more is more

Karl Lagerfeld installed a suitably polished wind farm in the monumental Grand Palais for his show for Chanel in Paris yesterday. In terms of scale, this was the biggest production of the week – there was more floor space, more models, more clothes and a larger audience. As an exercise in sheer power, then, it was unprecedented as befits a fashion brand widely believed to be the most successful in the world, though not one generally famed for its conservative carbon footprint.
