ABOUT THE PROMOTION

1. I’ve seen something about winning £70,000 with The Independent. What is this?

To celebrate the launch of new Lotto, The Independent is running a reader promotion to win £70,000. The promotion kicks off on Thursday, October 3 and ends on Sunday, October 20, 2013.

2. How is the Lotto changing?

On Saturday, October 5, 2013 the new Lotto will launch with bigger jackpots and a brand new raffle, so now there’s even more ways to win more money

  • New Lotto is £2 and now there is more than twice as much in the prize pot
  • Matching just 3 numbers now wins you £25
  • New Lotto will be contributing even more money to Good Causes around the UK
  • As well as the jackpot line, there's now also a raffle number to check to see if it's a winner, so don't forget to check your raffle numbers too.

3. Will there be any other activity surrounding the launch?

The new Lotto launches on Saturday, October 5 and to celebrate there’s an unmissable £10 million jackpot and an incredible 1,000 raffle winners of £20,000

4. How do I enter The Independent Lotto promotion?

For a chance to participate The Independent Lotto promotion draw you must:

a. Have purchased a National Lottery Lotto Ticket at a National Lottery retailer or via The National Lottery website www.national-lottery.co.uk for entry into a National Lottery Lotto draw to be held on September 28, October 2, October 5, October 9, October 12, October 16, October 19, or October 23, 2013.*

* Please note that tickets purchased for National Lottery draws outside these dates will not be valid for entry.

b. Enter online only.

i. Visit www.independent.co.uk/competitions between Thursday 3 October 2013 and 11.59pm on Sunday 20 October 2013 and click on the Lotto promotion link (this link will take you through to the Independent Competitions and Offers Facebook page).

ii. Follow the on-screen instructions and enter your personal details (including your full name, address, email address* and telephone number), and your unique Lotto Ticket number from your Ticket for a Qualifying Lotto Draw. We have circled in red where on the Lotto ticket the unique Lotto ticket number is placed. (See example). Lottery tickets purchased in-store will have 19 digits and those purchased online will only have 15 digits.**

*Please note that if you are a winner, you may be contacted via email, so please ensure that you provide a valid email address. You must respond within 14 days of initial contact, otherwise The Independent reserves the right to offer the prize to another entrant (selected at random).

**Please note that your Ticket number will be checked to ensure it is a valid number for the Draw. You must keep your original Ticket (or a copy of the original), or printed validation slip as proof of purchase – this may be required to be shown before any prize is awarded.

5. Do I need to buy The Independent newspaper to participate?

You do not need to purchase The Independent newspaper to enter. Entry is free online.

6. Do I need to buy a National Lottery Lotto ticket to participate?

UK residents will need to purchase a National Lottery Lotto ticket, valid for the following draws:

September 28, October 2, October 5, October 9, October 12, October 16, October 19, or October 23, 2013.

Residents of Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man can enter without purchasing a National Lottery Lotto ticket, by registering in the same way detailed above. These persons will not be required to provide a Ticket. Entrants’ addresses must be valid and will be verified. Free entry is limited to one per person.

7. Which National Lottery tickets can be used as part of this Promotion?

Only National Lottery Lotto tickets purchased for entry into a National Lottery Lotto draw to be held September 28, October 2, October 5, October 9, October 12, October 16, October 19, or October 23, 2013 can be used to enter this promotion.

8. How many times can I enter?

You can enter as many times as you like as long as you have more than one valid Lotto ticket number.***

***Please note if you purchase a Lotto ticket with more than 1 line that will still only count as one valid Lotto ticket. Only individual Lotto tickets are counted as one valid Lotto ticket number to enter.

9. Do I need internet access to enter?

Yes, you will need internet access to enter the promotion. To enter the promotion enter www.independent.co.uk/competitions and complete the competition entry form.

10. Do I need an email address to enter?

Yes, you will need an email address to enter. Winners may be contacted via email.

11. Do I need a mobile phone to enter?

No, all winners will need to provide a contact telephone number, but this can be either a mobile or landline number.

12. Do I have to be of a certain age to enter?

Yes, you must be at least 16 years of age to participate in the Promotion.

13. Who is eligible to enter?

All permanent residents of the United Kingdom (including the Isle of Man) aged 16 or over are eligible to enter.

14. How long will the Promotion last?

The promotion will commence on Thursday 3 October 2013 and close at 11.59pm on Sunday 20 October 2013. The draw will take place on Monday 21 October 2013.

15. I am concerned about getting unwanted emails from participating in the Promotion.

If you do not want to receive any emails from Camelot, then please tick the box "I do not wish to receive the latest promotions, news and events from The National Lottery" on the online entry form to opt out.

16. Which prizes are available to be won in this Promotion?

There is one prize available, a cash prize of £70,000

17. How will I know if I have won?

If you are a winner, a representative from The Independent will telephone you, on the number you provided on entry, within 7 days for the draw taking place. The Independent may also contact you be email if provided on entry. If The Independent cannot make contact with you within 14 days of initial contact (via email or telephone message), The Independent reserves the right to offer the prize to another entrant (selected at random).

Please note that your Ticket number will be checked to ensure it is a valid number for the Draw. You must keep your original Ticket (or a copy of the original), or printed validation slip as proof of purchase – this will be required to be shown before any prize is awarded.

18. I have won. Can I remain anonymous?

As part of the Terms and conditions of this promotion players agree that by entering they acknowledge, accept and agree that if they are a winner they have no right to anonymity. The winners’ names and post town may be announced in The Independent newspaper and on www.independent.co.uk. If you are not comfortable with this, we would recommend that you do not enter into the promotion.

19. I entered using a Lotto ticket number from a syndicate ticket and it has won. What happens now?

If the Ticket was purchased on behalf of a syndicate, it is the responsibility of the members of the syndicate to decide who will submit the unique Lotto ticket number and how any prize won may be shared. Camelot will pay any prize won to the person whose details have been used for entry.

20. I won on the main Lotto draw and have already given my Lotto ticket to my retailer to claim my prize. I have now won on The Independent £70,000 Reader Promotion, what should I do?

The retailer will have handed you a printed validation slip with your winnings from the main Lotto draw, keep hold of this validation slip as it can be used instead of your ticket to claim your prize.

21. I can’t find my Lotto ticket/validation slip and I have won, what happens now?

Your Lotto ticket or validation slip is required in order for your prize to be awarded. Unfortunately if you are unable to produce either of these upon request we will not be able to give you your prize and a reserve winner will be contacted.

22. When will I receive my prize?

If you are a winner, you will be awarded by cheque or bank transfer. Method of payment for the prize is to be agreed between the winner and Camelot winner services. Cheque payments will be made payable to the name supplied upon entry into the promotion. The prize will be awarded in person by a Camelot member of staff at a date and time to be arranged with the winner.
