As the days get longer and the evenings warmer, it's time to pack away heavy wintry fragrances and slip into something a little lighter. We've tried and tested a range of luxe scents to bring you our favourites.
1. Mary Greenwell Cherry Eau de Parfum: £70 for 100ml, amazon.co.uk
Top make-up artist Mary Greenwell has been working with A-listers since the 1970s. One of her mantras is that scent is the finishing touch of a beautiful look and we’re big fans of her range of fragrances. Cherry is described as 'playful, vivacious and witty'. It blends fruity cassis, blackberries, cherry and bergamot, with warm white florals jasmine and muguet (French Lily of the Valley), drying down to rich sweet vanilla, patchouli, tonka bean and liquorice. A deeply feminine scent with a sweet innocence.
2. Tom Daxon Crushing Bloom Eau de Parfum: £105 for 50ml, liberty.co.uk
If you like rose, but not the pretty delicate sort, this stunning, weighty scent is for you. Fresh lily of the valley and spicy pink and black pepper settle into beautiful rich heart notes of rose, jasmine and iris with a warm base of musks, oakmoss and vetiver. This is a strong, womanly scent, not one for the faint hearted.
3. La Perla Peony Blossom Eau de Toilette: £60 for 100ml, johnlewis.com
A sparkling start to this scent with juicy pear and luscious white peach, blends with warm blackcurrant and clean sweet orange blossom. A heart of stunning peony, sensual jasmine blossom and violet, drys down into a warm delicate base of vanilla, patchouli and sweet musk. Irresistibly feminine.
4. Aerin Waterlily Sun Eau de Parfum Spray: £85 for 50ml, johnlewis.com
Inspired by Aerin Lauder's childhood visits to Claude Monet's Giverny gardens in France, Estee Lauder's granddaughter has created a floral fresh watery scent evoking the waterlilies that grow in the gardens. Bright Sicilian bergamot, lush dewy greens, exotic jasmine and sweet musk, creates a tranquil, natural, modern scent.
5. Atkinsons Jasmine & Tangerine Eau de Parfum Spray: £115 for 100ml, harrods.com
Edgy and modern, this fragrance takes familiar scents and makes them unfamiliar. Intoxicating jasmine, ylang ylang and gardenia - romantic sensual florals - are blended with sparkling bright tangerine. A fresh and contemporary fruity floral.
6. Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Eau de Toilette: £42 for 50ml, debenhams.com
Channelling the easy charm of Marc Jacobs' original Daisy scent, Dream is youthful, spirited and romantic. Light and airy - think blue skies and daisies - the scent blends blackberry, grapefruit and pear, with a heart of jasmine, lychee and wisteria, drying down to a warm base of white woods and musks.
7. Marni Rose Eau de Parfum Spray: £68 for 65ml, harrods.com
Bold and assertive, this sophisticated scent takes the gentle delicate rose and gives it some oomph. Mint, bitter almond, cassis, raspberry and violet lift the rose and give it a real vibrancy and pop. While the rich woody base of cedar, musk and patchouli give it longevity and warmth.
8. Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Floral Drops Eau de Toilette: £66 for 75ml, boots.com
This is one of the prettiest bottles in the round up; a soft green-frosted chunky glass bottle with a delicate sculpted flower for a cap and a little bow round its neck. A fresh floral blend of neroli leaves, papaya, white amaryllis, white daffodil and white water lily, with a musky base of sandalwood, give this a warm ultra feminine scent.
9. Jo Malone Lily of The Valley & Ivy Cologne: £42 for 30ml, jomalone.co.uk
Jo Malone's new range Rock the Ages is a limited edition collection of 5 scents representing different eras, “Great Britain. Proud. Illustrious. A little eccentric. A nation renowned for its distinguished history and defining eras”. Captivating and ethereal, the delicate lily of the valley and fresh green ivy embody the Georgian era.
10. Atelier Cologne Rose Anonymity: £105 for 100ml, selfridges.com
Sparkling Turkish rose blended with spicy ginger, Indonesian patchouli and sultry Somalian incense create a stunning and intoxicating unisex scent. Not for the faint hearted, this is as bold as it is beautiful.
11. DKNY Delicious Delights Eau de Toilette: £37 for 50ml, boots.com
A limited edition trio of sorbet-inspired scents. Creamy decadent Fruity Sooty blends blackberry, mandarin, rose and violet. Feminine Dreamsicle mixes mandarin, raspberry, apple, peach and apricot. While bouncy fresh Cool Swirl contains violet, coconut, magnolia, jasmine and pistachio. Warm, woody, musky, sweet base notes give all three a beautiful lasting scent.
For fresh, modern scent Aerin Waterlily Sun is superb, while Tom Daxon's Crushing Bloom is a beautiful, strong, vibrant floral. But the top spot this week goes to Mary Greenwell's stunningly bright and vivacious Cherry.
