There's a thirst-quenching cleansing oil for every skin type and budget. We've tired and tested a range to bring you the very best.
1. Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil, £24 for 200ml, John Lewis
A zesty, energising blend of grapefruit, orange and lemon, combined with non-pore-clogging safflower, sesame, olive, sunflower, macadamia nut and grapeseed oils, strips away the day's dirt, without removing the skin's natural lipid barrier. A make-up remover and full face cleanser, this lightweight oil also contains healing sage if your skin is prone to irritations.
2. Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil, £31 for 200ml, John Lewis
This is cleansing at its most luxurious. French Jasmine flower extract, kukui nut oil, Italian olive, organic sunflower and jojoba oils, combine to dissolve even the most stubborn waterproof mascaras. A little goes a long way and it has a pump dispenser so very little is actually wasted, which means it's not as expensive as it first appears.
3. Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil, £22 for 200ml, John Lewis
Long wear foundations – especially those containing sunscreen – can be pretty stubborn, even by the end of the day. But they're no match for this cleanser. Apply neat to the skin and massage in to dissolve face and eye make-up. Add water and it turns into a light milky texture that rinses right off. The inclusion of an oil-like ingredient from the castor bean plant, means this doesn't behave like an oil and leave you greasy – which makes it perfect for oily and combination skin tones.
4. MAC Cleanse Off Oil/Tranquil, £10, MAC
Ultra-gentle, this mineral cleanser contains soothing chamomile, seagrass and botanical oils to gently lift away all make-up, leaving the skin soft and smooth. The fresh green scent is wonderfully relaxing and is a good one to choose if you have dry, mature or stressed out skin. A make-up artist must-have backstage, it works wonders on models who are repeatedly taking make-up on and off during fashion week and need to keep their skin calm.
5. Sanctuary Spa Youth Boosting Facial Ultimate Facial Cleansing Oil, £13 for 150ml, Boots
Firm up and smooth dehydrated or mature skin with this three-in-one. It dissolves make-up and purifies and moisturises cleanser. Four oils, rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids replenish the skin, while the bitter orange and lemon citrus burst gives skin a refreshing boost morning and night.
6. Murad Renewing Cleansing Oil, £25 for 180ml, amazon

7. DHC Pore Cleansing Oil, £25 for 150ml, amazon
Nice anti-oxidant botanical oils – argan, coconut, evening primrose, olive, grape seed, jojoba, avocado, sesame and rice bran – blend together to deliver serious cleaning. 8. RMK Cleansing Oil, £29 for 175ml, Look Fantastic
A nutrient-rich formula, orange oil taken from orange peel 'melts' away sebum clogged in pores which can cause spots, while apricot and almond oil work to keep dry skin nourished and conditioned. Great for combination complexions.
9. Dolce & Gabbana Cleansing Oil, £33 for 150ml, Harrods
Unlike some fashion houses, the beauty line from Dolce & Gabbana is actually very good. Exceptional ingredients, beautiful packaging and skin is left feeling luxuriously pampered with this range. And the oil is no different. Massage in with fingertips to remove even long-wear lipsticks and eye make-up and then emulsify with water until it turns into a light milk. Rinse off and follow with toner and moisturiser
10. Argan Oil Skin Awakening Cleansing Oil, £10, Feel Unique
Sunflower seed, olive, grapeseed, passionflower seed, rosehip seed, kukui seed, moringa seed and argan oils pack an antioxidant, nourishing punch, while the zesty lemon burst gives skin a wake up call in the morning. This one has no problem removing all traces of make-up and cleaning and unclogging pores.
11. SUQQU Reset Cleansing Oil, £33 for 150ml, Harrods
A high-end Japanese brand, this oil from Suuqu is great for normal to combination skin, as it's not overly moisturising. It removes all make-up really effectively and leaves skin ultra soft, gently scented and with a beautiful glowy sheen.
For pure luxury, you can't beat Jasmine-scented Bobbi Brown's Soothing Cleansing Oil, DHC Pore Cleansing Oil helps moderate excess sebum. But the ultimate oil is the non pore-clogging, healing and ultra nourishing, zingy citrus Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil.
