Earl Grey Teahouse
As the name suggests, this is set in the former home of the 19th-century prime minister Earl Grey, after whom the classic bergamot-scented tea takes its name. 'Once you've finished looking round the fabulous gardens, have a pot of the Earl's best (or one of several other speciality teas) with one of the superb cakes made by the lovely Mary, daughter of the hall's retired woodman,' says Matthew. 'Her Victoria sponge is world-class and her courgette cake is worth driving to Northumberland for.'
