Little ones love sand play, but it’s not always possible to go to the beach. A sandpit is the next best option. Handily for those without big gardens, many of today’s versions come as a sand table that can easily fit on the smallest of spaces, whilst bigger, traditional ones also remain popular. We got our mini-testers to help us with the verdict.

Made from long-lasting timber, this is actually a great outdoor table for tots, where they can paint and do other art activities. When you pull back the middle, there are two removable lime green play bowls that are ideal for sand and water play. Suitable from aged two upwards.

Don’t be surprised if you find this listed as “My First Vegetable Garden” because it doubles up as just that. If used as a sandpit, the 75cm square enclosure is great for smaller children and it’s lovely and cheap. It comes with a  polyethylene cover to keep animals out.
