Parties: Hollywood hits the deck

What's it take to part a woman from her Manolos? A 200ft yacht, of course. Goldie Hawn, Jade Jagger and Natalie Imbruglia all ditched their shoes to walk barefoot down a candle-lit dock and on to the Pegasus for a party thrown by luxury-lifestyle group Quintessentially and fashion princess Margherita Missoni at the Cannes Film Festival last Friday week.

As the film producer Harvey Weinstein held court among his kind of people – a gaggle of movie execs – Mario Testino manoeuvred his way among his kind of people – throngs of immaculately coiffed ladies – snapping dozens of photographs as he went.

Despite the cold weather, one of those ladies, the supermodel Bar Rafaeli showed off the slender yet curvy physique that has made her the talk of Cannes, while Mischa Barton braved the chill in a floral maxi dress as she browsed the 18-carat Ileana Makri-designed bracelets that were on sale to benefit OrphanAid Africa.

But the biggest stir among the female guests was caused not by the jewels but by the appearance of Dean Cain, the jaw-droppingly handsome former Superman. After rumours circulated that he was single, several guests ditched their dates and made their way below decks to grab a glass of champagne, foie gras canapé and the chance of a chat.

As Brit DJ Dan Williams spun some tunes, the boat turned into a de facto dance floor and a few brave souls started pole-dancing in front of a bemused-looking Barton.

This being Cannes, there's always the worry that however good your party is, the one next door could be better. As dozens of guests craned their necks to get a look at the adjacent shindig, more tried to crash it, with limited success; Dennis Hopper was enjoying his 72nd birthday, and he wasn't about to let just anyone come along for the ride.
