The sacked Sheffield Wednesday manager, Chris Turner, said the club's chairman, Dave Allen, is the right man to lead the club back towards the élite.

Turner, who was sacked along with his assistant, Colin West, after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Bournemouth, said: "I hope everybody rallies round the chairman ... I've no bitterness and feel no animosity."

Turner, appointed in November 2002, paid the price for a disappointing start to the season. The club are 14th in League One.
