Some of the biggest names in the music industry have been arriving at the 02 Arena in London for tonight's Brit Awards.

Rock band Muse will open the ceremony following their gig earlier this week in aid of War Child, the charity which provides relief for children caught up in the world’s worst conflicts, set to be honoured at tonight's Brits.

Other scheduled performers include One Direction, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, and Robbie Williams.

Organisers have suggested they will make it up to Adele after her acceptance speech was cut short at last year's awards. The singer expressed her dismay as she was interrupted by host James Corden by giving the finger.

Brit Awards chairman David Joseph told the Guardian: "I very much to this day question what was happening in that control booth. I can hint something is going to happen this year to rewrite that wrong."

However it is unclear what they have planned for the "Skyfall" singer who is currently in LA ahead of Sunday night's Oscars where she will perform.

She is hotly tipped to take the gong for Best British Single for her James Bond theme tune.

Another favourite is Scottish singer Emeli Sandé for Best British Album and Female for Our Version of Events which was the only 2012 release to sell more than one million copies.

Folksters Mumford & Sons are also bookies' favourite to win Best British Group following their success in both the UK and American charts with second album, Babel.

Both Mumford & Sons, Sandé and Mercury Prize-winning band Alt-J have been nominated three times.

Fresh from their performances at the 02 last year the Rolling Stones are up for best live act against Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Muse and The Vaccines.

Mitch Winehouse, father of late soul singer Amy Winehouse, arrived at tonight's event wearing a waistcoat emblazoned with his daughter's face.

Winehouse was nominated posthumously in the Best British Female category.

In response to the massive global success of British artists One Direction, Mumford & Sons and Adele this year organisers have added a new category recognising overseas domination.

Fans gathered despite the bitter cold to cheer red carpet arrivals.
