Baby penguins at play, a lioness approaches, a baby gorilla tucks into a snack, bull elephants approach a camera, zebras and an adult brown bear in the wilds of Alaska are just a few of the black and white striking images taken by the self-taught 47-year-old, Mr Yarrow, who was shortlisted for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award - and contained in his book Encounter.

The Scottish photographer travelled to some of the world's remotest destinations, including Snow Hill, Antartica; Katmai National Park, Alaska; Manitoba, Canada; and came face to face with deadly animals to capture these amazing pictures of wildlife in some of the harshest landscapes on Earth. He exposes portraits of the wild animals in their environment and all their features.

Encounter is published on 12 November.
