A police officer and two other people have been shot during an incident in Louisiana in which eight people were taken hostage, according to state police.

Louisiana State Police spokesman Sgt. James Anderson told the Advocate that the officer was airlifted to an area hospital. Acadian Ambulance reported that eight ambulances and three helicopters responded to the scene off of Martin Luther King Drive near Interstate 49.

“We are currently transporting one patient with a gunshot wound to an area hospital via Air Med,” said Randall Mann of Acadian Ambulance.

“Another St Landry EMS is also reportedly transporting another patient as well.”
