Japan Fashion Week
October 19-25

It is only the ninth edition of Japanese fashion week, but already, the event enjoys the acclaim of the international community. This season, there will be a collective of Danish designers exhibiting (among them Peter Jensen and Noir/Bllack Noir) as well as the most successful labels of the country such as House of the very Island.


Web 2.0 Summit

San Francisco/USA

The theme for the sixth Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco is Web Squared, with focus on topics such as the way the web works, the technologies behind the internet, and the surrounding philosophies that are encountered in the continued growth and usage of the internet - "openness, collective intelligence, and transparency."


41st Tokyo Auto Show
October 21-November 4

Traditionally the biggest auto show in Asia, this year's 41st Tokyo Motor Show 2009 has been hit hard by the global downturn. The display area is half of what it was in the last show in 2007. The major US manufacturers have withdrawn, as have the major European ones, including those from France, Germany, and Sweden. However, Japan's automakers - Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Daihatsu - will be there in force.
Open to general public from October 24 to November 4.

Paris International Contemporary Art Fair
October 22-25

The 36th edition of the FIAC (International Contemporary Art Fair) will take place in the Grand Palais and in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre in Paris, with 180 galleries and 3,500 artists from 21 countries expected to participate.


The Anarchy of Silence: John Cage and Experimental Art
October 23-January 10

A unique exhibition tracing the American composer's entire career, from his early abstract pieces and unconventional use of instruments to his later conceptual and silent works and finally to his innovative use of media during the later stages of his life.


Monty Python comedy team reunites for musical adaptation of Life of Brian

The original cast of Monty Python reunite to celebrate its 40th anniversary in a musical adaptation of the 1979 film Monty Python's Life of Brian. The adaptation, entitled Not the Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy), will star four of the original six stars - British comedians Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones.


China Tea Expo
October 24-27

The CTE - China's largest tea industry gathering - features a World Tea Forum, seminars and tastings. Last year more than 13,000 industry representatives attended, from 350 international companies. China's 297,000 tonnes of exported tea was valued at US$682 million ($475 million euros) last year and accounted for a fifth of the total international tea trade.


International Festival of African Fashion in Niger
October 25-November 11

This biennial event invites international African designers to meet and share their views in a fashion event that also spreads a peace message and highlights African creativity through modeling, haute couture and musical genres such as hip-hop. FIMA (Festival International de la Mode Africaine) celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
