This Friday's selection: a new retrospective on American avant-garde composer John Cage in Barcelona, members of Monty Python re-unite for a musical version of thier hit film Life of Brian in London, and jazz luminaries gather in Cork, Ireland.

Monty Python comedy team reunites for musical adaptation of 'Life of Brian'

The original cast of Monty Python reunite to celebrate its 40th anniversary in a musical adaptation of the 1979 film Monty Python's Life of Brian. The adaptation, entitled Not the Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy), will star four of the original six stars - British comedians Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones.

Held in Cork City, Ireland, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is the biggest jazz event in Ireland, with thousands of music aficionados flocking to the country to take in hundreds of jazz players. American jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Dave Brubeck have all played the jazz fest in the past. Joining those illustrious ranks for the 2009 bill are American jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, American jazz drummer Jack DeJohnette and the Sun Ra Arkestra (under the direction of American sax player Marshall Allen).
