A Taiwanese writer was detained by police at the World Expo in Shanghai for wearing a T-shirt printed with "sensitive words", Taiwanese media said Friday.

Lucifer Chu, a well-known writer and television commentator, was taken away by police and questioned for about 40 minutes because his T-shirt read "otaku rebellion army," said the TVBS news channel.

"Otaku" is a Japanese term referring to people who are obsessed with manga and video games and shun social interactions.

"The police thought my T-shirt was sensitive and gave me another one... I urge Taiwanese people not to wear T-shirts carrying 'sensitive words' to the Expo," he said.
