Rugby: It has been reported that the Old Street Onians, a London rugby club, have written to Hackney Council to ask if their home pitch on Hackney Marshes can be repainted so that it lies east-west instead of north-south. The idea came from the clubs feng shui adviser, Mao Ng, who believes the change could enable energies to flow more smoothly.

Basketball: A coroner in Melbourne, Australia, has called for slam dunks to be banned in the state of Victoria after a teenager died attempting one. The death was caused by the basketball pole and ring collapsing on the player as he slammed the ball into the net.

Dunking: Three workers from the McVitie's plant at Tollcross, Glasgow, have won the world's first biscuit-dunking championships held in their home town last weekend. Their winning total was 37 biscuits in a minute. A team from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, finished one biscuit behind. The event was the climax of National Dunking Week.
