Over the past few years, Jigsaw menswear has really come into its own - good classic pieces designed with a fresh approach. This season it relaunches the classic mackintosh, that hated garment your mother always insisted you take on school trips. But you won't hate it anymore. Jigsaw has cleverly restyled and cut it without compromising the quality that the mac has always been famous for. It is available in three styles: peacoat, reefer jacket (as shown) and fly-front mac, and three colours: black, navy and taupe. Each mackintosh is water and weather

resistant and guaranteed for 10 years. The mackintosh was invented by Scottish chemist Charles Macintosh in the early 19th century. At first they smelt horribly of rubber (the original material was made of wool and India rubber), but this problem was later solved to bring us the odour- free macs we know today. AB

Jigsaw reefer-style mackintosh, pounds 240; peacoat and fly-front styles, pounds 220. Sizes M/L/XL. From Jigsaw Menswear 9/10 Floral Street, WC2 and branches nationwide, inquiries: 0171 240 5651.
