Bank holiday opening times: When are Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury's and other supermarkets open this Monday?

Turning up at a supermarket to do a last-minute food shop only to find that your local store is shut for the bank holiday is a situation best avoided.

From Saturday 24 August, people living in England and Wales will have three days off work to celebrate the last bank holiday weekend of the summer.

And with UK temperatures expected to rise this weekend, the last thing you want to do is to find yourself raiding the freezer for emergency supplies of BBQ meats and ice creams for the family.

But, be warned, as most supermarkets operate on reduced hours during public holidays.

To ensure your cupboards and fridges are fully stocked before the weekend, here is a list of the opening times of the UK’s most popular supermarkets:

Aldi

The supermarket chain will be operating under several different hours this weekend.

The opening and closing times are as follows:

Saturday 24 August: 8am to 10pm

Sunday 25 August: 10am to 4pm

Monday 26 August: 8am to 8pm.

Tesco

Normal opening hours at Tescos apply on Saturday and Sunday.

However, on Monday the majority of stores will be open 9am to 6pm.

Metro stores will also be open 9am to 6pm and Express shops will be open normal hours.

In London and Scotland, Extra and Superstore branches are open 8am to 10pm.

Customers are advised to check their local stores opening hours for more details.

Morrisons

The supermarket chain will be open as usual on Saturday (7am – 10pm) and Sunday (10am – 4pm).

However, stores will be open from open from 8am – 7pm on the bank holiday.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury’s branches will be open as usual over the bank holiday weekend.

That said, the opening of hours of certain shops might differ.

Asda

While Asda branches will be open all weekend, it is best to find out your local shop’s operating hours online.

Lidl

The supermarket will be open Saturday to Sunday from 8am to 10pm. However, hours may vary depending on your local store.

Waitrose

All Waitrose shops will trade normal hours on Saturday and Sunday.

On the August bank holiday Monday, the majority of Waitrose supermarkets will be open from 9am – 6pm with some opening from 8am – 8pm and 10am – 4pm.

All Shell and Welcome Break stores will trade as usual.

Marks and Spencer

The supermarket will be opening throughout the August bank holiday weekend.

However, opening hours will vary depending on location.

Spar

Opening times usually vary at the supermarket 7am to 9pm at Spar branches, with certain locations opening 24 hours.

As a result, it’s worth checking your local store’s opening hours before visiting.
