Cab driver returns to rape woman in her home
Tuesday 14 June 1994
The terrified woman, 23, woke early in the morning to find the driver standing in her bedroom. She had earlier let the man into her house in Hammersmith, west London, after she ran out of money to pay the pounds 10 fare.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: 'The woman had been out in the West End and
left the Long Island Tea Rooms bar in Upper St Martin's Lane between 1 and 2 am on Saturday.
'She was approached by a minicab driver illegally touting for hire and he gave her a lift home.
'When she arrived home she didn't have enough money to pay for the cab.
'The driver was let inside while she went to get the fare. She went to bed and was woken up between 3.30am and 4am to find the same man in her bedroom. He raped her and then left.
'We believe he stole a front door key and let himself back into the house later.
The driver, who told the woman he was called Hamid and lived in Wood Green, is described as of Asian or Middle Eastern appearance.
