Chess news:
British interest in the international tournament at Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, vanished when Nigel Short lost to Alexei Dreyev by 11/2-1/2 in the semi-final.
The final is now being contested between Dreyev and Yevgeny Bareyev who defeated Alexander Khalifman by 11/2-1/2.
Short was the only non-Russian to reach the semi-finals. Michael Adams, the only other British grandmaster invited to the event, was eliminated after reaching the last 16.
The first game of the final resulted in a win for Dreyev.
