A Doll's House

Just one more week to catch the truly electrifying performances of Owen Teale and Janet McTeer in Anthony Page's wondrous production of Ibsen's timeless and most famous drama. Mesmerising.

Playhouse Theatre, London WC2 (0171-839 4401)

Dick Daredevil

An energetic musical romp, set in World War II, about 10-year-old Billy who teams up with the fictional superhero to save the world. A vast cast dance their socks off, Howard Samuels is a hysterical villain and only the flint-hearted would admit to being unmoved. Over the top, and why not?

Drill Hall, London WC1 (0171-637 8270)

Guys and Dolls

One of the greatest musicals ever written in Richard Eyre's ludicrously joyous production. The staging is simply sensational, likewise the script and the score. Waves of joy flood back and forth between the stage and the audience making over three hours of almost indecent pleasure. Whatever it takes to get a ticket, do it.

National Theatre, London SE1 (0171-928 2252)

Lady Windermere's Fan

A top-notch cast - including Simon Robson, Gabrielle Drake and the redoubtable Rosalind Knight - plays Wilde's exquisite comedy about a woman with a past with enough sparkle to shine light into the New Year.

Royal Exchange Mobile Theatre, Manchester (0161-833 9833)

Peter Pan

You'll believe a boy can fly. Spectacular designs and a marvellously high thrills, chills and spills factor in Matthew Warchus's revival of his hit production, with John Padden as Peter, Una Stubbs as Mrs Darling.

West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds (0113-244 2111)

The Cherry Orchard

Penelope Wilton is simply astonishing as Madame Ranyevskaya, the woman at the literal and emotional heart of Chekhov's masterpiece, in this bold RSC production by Adrian Noble. Closing soon, then touring.

Albery Theatre, London WC2 (0171-369 1730)

A Christmas Carol

Richard Briers is suitably nasty in Neil Bartlett's crisp retelling of Charles Dickens's classic. Simple and simply splendid design and lighting, plus terrific ensemble playing from the seven-strong cast makes this a treat for slightly older children.

Lyric Hammersmith, London W6 (0181-741 2311)
