This month Game of Thrones’ stars have taken over the covers of some of the biggest fashion magazines worldwide.

As the highly-anticipated Season 5 of the HBO series prepares to debut on Sunday, a slew of glossy publications tapped various actors from the show, including Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams, to cover their spring issues.

Emilia Clarke covers May Vogue (Vogue)

The styling of the covers varies wildly with some shoots featuring the stars in almost full-character (Clarke, for example, embraces her Daenerys look on the cover of Vogue’s May issue) but others appear downright unrecognisable (just like tattoo-laden Lena Heady, who sports a brunette bob on the cover of More).

On the other hand, while many know teenage actress Williams as the sword-wielding tomboy Arya Stark, she introduces a whole new side in Dazed magazine.

The 17-year-old embarked on a political rant ahead of the general Elections in an interview accompanying her shoot, in which she said she’ll be 18 by then and will be voting for the first time.

“I picked up my voice at a young age and I wanna use it,” she said. “I get a lot of adults who are like, ‘You don’t know shit,’ and it’s like, ‘You don’t know shit. You have no idea what it’s like to be 17 years old.’”

Although starring in a photoshoot might seem quite of character, Williams appears on the cover wearing a plum coat by Vivienne Westwood with various independence themes pins and bows, and a bow shirt by J.W Anderson. Inside her 10-page cover story, entitled “Absolutely Lawless”, she sports a natural look, minimal clothing from designer labels such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gareth Pugh and Dior, and in one shot she holds a red flower.

“I don’t wanna be liked just because I’m pretty,” she added.

The male actors didn’t escape from the fashion magazine makeover either. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister, covers GQ Australia’s April issue. But with the excitement of the Season 5, the glossy also launches a second cover for the same issue featuring Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow. Each actor appears in different style. While Coster-Waldau suits up and gestures towards the camera, Harrington poses crossed arms in a sleeveless t-shirt.

So whatever your magazine of choice, expect to find a plethora of Game of Thrones’ stars on the newsstands this month.

Season 5 premieres this Sunday, 12 April, on HBO.
