Family Travel: The Good Family Hotel Guide 22. Boscobel Beach, Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Saturday 20 November 1999
Teddy Bear posters at the entrance set the scene for this unpretentious, all-inclusive package tour hotel in tropical gardens just outside Ocho Rios.
Safe, gently shelving golden sands, but only three poolsprevent overcrowding.
Accommodation There are several family-size bedrooms, all air conditioned with fridges and mod cons. Lanai suites sleep two adults and one child; others can accommodate two adults and up to three kids.
Plenty for every everyone - the problem could be for those who prefer to just chill. Babies from 0 to three can nap and play in a giant playroom from 9 am to 5 pm, with nannies available to baby-sit later for $2.50 (around pounds 1.50) an hour. Four to seven years can be entertained in the Bears' Bungalow from 9 am to 10 pm; eight to 12-years have their own activities plus an adventure camp, and teenagers have a Super Adventure programme with riding, climbing and exploring.
Food isn't a gastronomic highlight, but it's varied and plentiful. Various bars, and restaurants with supervised meals for the children.
Out and About
Favourite excursions nearby including rafting on the Martha Brae, and climbing Dunn's River Falls with guides. Get there early; not one for kids.
Sample Prices Thomson Holidays (0990 502 399) offers a week's all-inclusive holiday from pounds 1,099 for adults, pounds 319 for children under 12.
