Celebrity beauty lessons: get 'Sex and the City' hair

With the premiere of
Sex and the City movie sequel last week, hairstylist Oribe - whose products were used on set - has shared his secrets on how he achieved each character's looks.

Carrie

"Carrie has beautiful wavy hair with great texture and shine. The best way to recreate her style is to curl your hair with a two-inch-barrel curling iron, and then run your fingers through your hair. Try Soft Lacquer Hair Spray ($42) to individualize each curl, hold hair in place, and lock in shine."

If you're on a budget, try Tresemme Tres Two Hair Spray Aerosol Ultra Fine Mist, $4.99.

Charlotte

"Start with Gel Sérum ($58), run it through your hair, then turn your head upside-down to blow-dry. Next, use large hot rollers throughout. Let them cool, and brush out your hair. Spray in Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray ($38), especially in the summer when everyone is concerned about humidity. If you have thicker hair, you can finish with a bit of Supershine Moisturizing Cream ($49) to add softness, keep hair hydrated, and instill a nice sheen. Depending on how much hair you have, you could add Supershine Moisturizing Cream all over."

For alternatives, try TIGI Bed Head Control Freak Serum ($6.99), Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Anti-humidity Hair Styling Cream ($8.99), and LUSH Marilyn Hair Treatment Hair Moisturizer ($19.95).

Miranda

"Her hair is shorter, so it's nice to get some fullness. Dry Texturizing Spray ($39) is fantastic for the crown area. Or you could try Soft Lacquer Hair Spray ($42) throughout, let it dry, and run your fingers through your hair to create shine and separation. That's really what you're going for with shorter styles. Just remember to take your haircut into consideration to find the best products for the look you're trying to achieve."

For a less expensive texturizing product, try Garnier Fructis Surf Hair Texture Spray ($5.99).

Samantha

"For Samantha's look, start with Volumista ($29) to add body, and throw in a little Gel Sérum for sophisticated hold. The goal here is full hair, so blow your hair out and style with a curling iron. Add Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray ($38) for frizz control, then seal with a product like Soft Lacquer Hair Spray ($42), which gives touchable shine. If you still want extra fullness, try Dry Texturizing Spray ($39) to add dimension."

For an alternative volumizing mist, try Sexy Hair So Pumped Volumizing Mist ($9.99).
