Emma Akbareian's picks include a slick suede trench coat and glitter pumps

When it comes to choosing new-season style inspiration, amid a sea of trends – some great (chunky knits, slimline tailoring), others best left to those being paid to wear them (1980s throwbacks, multicoloured gonk fur) – I'm taking styling prompts from the clean, serene Celine woman of Phoebe Philo. The label's offerings for pre-fall (1 - see gallery below) – fancy fashion talk for "that bit before autumn/winter" – have been selling up a storm and setting the pace.

Witness the echo of Celine's fuss-free lines and autumnal colour palette in, say, Marks & Spencer's slick suede trench coat, this season's version of their coveted spring midi skirt. You want it? Too bad: it's already sold out, but a fresh drop of this tan version (2) is due in store in October.

That said, minimalism is not going to win out entirely over my wardrobe, not if Miu Miu's glitter pumps have anything to do with it (3). Pair them with a frock (4) from London designer Simone Rocha, whose work combines girlish frilliness with austerity in an odd but intriguing fashion. There'll be a one-stop destination for Rocha's wares when her debut store opens in Mount Street, Mayfair, during London Fashion Week next month.

It's not just wardrobes set to embrace fresh perspectives: make-up bags are getting in on the act. The aptly named New Dimension (5) from Estée Lauder is being touted as the most exciting skincare release from the brand in three decades, a game-changing serum that contours and defines the face.

It sounds really fuss-free and easy. How's that for my autumn/winter 2015 fashion mantra?
