Chapeau!

We'll take that as a compliment – the French use the word for hat as a way of expressing admiration, and you can expect at least a few appreciative glances for this chic grey number from NYC label Rag & Bone (£165, stylebop.com, above).

It's a little day at the races, isn't it?

We think it's more Chelsea rock chick than Cheltenham Gold Cup; just add skinny jeans, a luxe polo neck and a leather jacket. Of course, it's entirely possible that neither of those aesthetics appeal.

In which case… other options for cranial accessorising?

For sheer novelty, we love Maison Michel's mad – and madly expensive – take on those PVC rain bonnets that you'd find on the counter in chemists for protecting your perm. It has teddy-bear ears, costs £205 (also stylebop.com) and was actually a spring-summer item; funnily enough, there are still some available. In all seriousness, though, the original PVC 50p rain bonnet is a post-blow-dry handbag essential.

How about something a little warmer and cosier?

Make like a Scandinavian style queen with a simple beanie. MyWardrobe has introduced a cashmere collection with a chic minimalist style in black or blue and is celebrating the launch with a 20 per cent discount (£31, my-wardrobe.com).
