We love: Varsity blues

Making a welcome return to Carnaby's Kingly Court, the London College of Fashion's College Shop is a chance to bag yourself a piece of what could end up being fashion history as one-off pieces from the school's graduates are on sale from £20.

We're not sure about: Dangerous nails

The Audit is all for putting an edgy spin on something mundane, but these weapon-shaped nail files by artist Shelley Getzendanner of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago seem a bit of a waste of shock tactics. File under thanks, but no thanks.

We're buying: Marvellous Marios

Designer Marios Schwab knows how to cut some seriously sexy cloth, so his debut collection for Debenhams' Edition line is perfectly timed for the party season. Black, deep purple and midnight blue pieces are embellished with Schwab's signature mesh detailing in this femme fatale-inspired line.

We can't wait for: New in town

Alexander McQueen's military-inspired menswear line is setting up shop on the hallowed ground of Savile Row. The launch of the first standalone menswear store on Thursday promises plenty to keep up with the neighbours, with a twisted take on traditional tailoring as befits the modern dandy.

We're reading: Shortcut to revolution

So much more than a standard snipper, the work of the late, great Vidal Sassoon is celebrated in this tome which explores it in the context of the social changes of the Sixties as well as his revolutionary retail strategy.
