The pressure to give the perfect gift can often overwhelm, especially in the retail feeding frenzy that is our nation's high streets at this time of year.

We've all been there, carefully thought-out list in hand, when panic sets in and bath bombs, novelty socks and a box of chocolate liqueurs suddenly find their way into the shopping basket.

Fret not this festive season as here you will find suggestions to take the pain out of buying – whether for your nearest and dearest or Mike in marketing. Understandably, budgets vary, but whether you mix and match a few from the top, or save your pennies up to splurge on one of the big ticket numbers, there should be something for everyone.

There are a few rules to remember of course, bigger isn't always better – something small but thoughtful is a joy to give or to receive. One-size-fits-all items are best for those you may not know so well. And pity the poor soul who presents their loved one with a much lusted after item only to find that the zip won't close or the buttons strain.
