YouTube star Loey Lane hits back at hateful comments about ‘fat girls in bikinis’ and how plus-size women promote obesity

The 22-years-old vlogger explains how "bigger girls are not asking for your feedback".

Plus-size YouTube star Loey Lane has hit back at hateful critics who argue bigger women shouldn't wear bikinis and are promoting obesity.

The 22-year-old American vlogger shared a video with her over 345,000 subscribers and more than 90,000 Instagram followers confronting comments saying that “fat girls” shouldn’t bare their figure. But she’s got a point: why should anyone decide what other people should wear?

"I didn’t realise there was a meeting and all the people who are allowed to decide what’s attractive and what’s not are now commenters on YouTube," she said.

"Seeing this much skin on a bigger woman makes someone else uncomfortable… Why does someone else get to dictate what you put on your body?

"Bigger girls aren't asking for your feedback."

It seems, however, that not everyone is positive about plus-size models and social media stars gaining such big following after all. As shown in Lane's videos' comments, many say that curvy figures are as unhealthy as the anorexic-looking models, because they promote obesity.

But Lane, who “loves to talk about body confidence”, took this issue too and explained: “Let me tell you something, anyone who is fat and not absolutely miserable is promoting obesity.

“And when I’m at the beach sitting in my bikini, I’m not shoving my face full of junk food or screaming at the top of my lungs about how everyone should be overweight.”

Lane began her Why Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Bikinis video saying: “I’ve learnt that apparently fat girls in bikinis get a lot of mixed reviews. So, I thought I’d give you a list today of the reasons why fat girls shouldn’t wear bikinis. Apparently.”

She listed the reasons people offer for why bigger women shouldn’t show their bodies, but she ended the clip, which has had over 846,000 views now, concluding there’s no valid reason, of course.

“So does that mean we get to continue wearing what we want? Hot damn, it’s not the 1950s after all.”

Lane’s video is the latest addition to the plus-size revolution that seems to be happening worldwide right now. Last week American plus-size model Denise Bidot bared her curves in a racy swimwear video campaign, in which she explains how she embraces her cellulite and stretch marks. Likewise did Ashley Graham, who showed off her curves in an ad hitting back at so controversial “beach body ready” advert.

They’ve both joined a wave of bigger models in the fashion industry, including Candice Huffine being the first plus-size model to appear in Pirelli Calendar, Tess Holliday singing a contract with major model agency, Bust magazine featuring five body shapes that differ from the models we see on the catwalk nowadays, UK’sSlink hitting the shelves across 15 countries, and Vogue releasing an “all shapes and sizes” lingerie shoot.
