Electronics company Panasonic has released its new LUMIX FX77, which will please tech geeks and beauty fans alike.
Apart from functions such as HD movie shooting, a 3D photo mode, and a touch screen, the new model also features a retouch function that, in addition to the usual brightness and color adjustment tools, enhances faces using virtual makeup.
States the press release: "In Aesthetic mode, various effects can be applied to the face including clearing the skin texture, lifting up the face, whitening of teeth and so on. Finally, in the Make-up mode for additional effect, the colour of foundation, lips, cheeks or eye-shadow can be selected."
This beauty retouch function is not emphasized in the marketing (the above paragraph appears at the bottom of the release), nor is the packaging of the camera especially women-friendly. Wouldn't this have been the perfect opportunity to target the much talked-about female audience for tech gadgets?
More and more beauty companies are integrating technology into their offer - see Clinique's iPad app guided tour for skincare or Shiseido's Digital Cosmetic Mirror - so it was about time that electronics brands reacted to the trend.
