US designer Alexander Wang, won the 10th Swiss Textiles Award 2009, presented on November 12, in Zurich.

The 100,000-euro award was presented as part of the Stella Contemporary Fashion Award 2009 event. Wang, having studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York, has been showcasing his collections at New York's fashion week since 2007.

His designs are often photographed on stars and fashion 'it girls' like Kate Moss, Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen. One of his trademark looks is an unexpected combination of elements like short tops and jogging trousers with high platform heels, while another signature style sees models kitted out in classic suits with sport shoes.

In 2008, Wang won the Vogue CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers in America) Fund Prize and the "Women's Wear newcomer" award.

The six other finalists of the award, Peter Pilotto, Erdem, Thakoon, Alexis Mabille and Ohne Titel will also receive fabric vouchers worth 4,000 euros.

The Swiss Textiles Award is one of the most celebrated fashion awards for young designers. Previous winners of the award include Rodarte, USA (2008) Haider Ackermann (2004) and Raf Simons (2003). Jury members for the awards include designer Isabel Toledo, Lauren Miligan from Vogue UK, Anja Stang from Elle Norway and Mina Wakatski, fashion journalist from Japan.
