It may have happened in secret, but the wedding of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt was always set to be a hot topic of conversation – with the Atelier Versace wedding dress the prime focus.

So to fulfill cravings of a snoop inside the big day of the fairy-tale nuptials, here, blow-by-blow, is everything you need to know about the Brangelina nuptials but were afraid of looking celeb-obsessed if you asked:

Where? At the couple's private estate just outside Marseille.

When? August 23rd

Where did the pictures run? The notoriously private couple made the unexpected decision to release pictures of the wedding to several magazines including People and Hello.

So what about the dress? Angelina opted for a classic ivory gown which featured a ruched bodice, thin shoulder straps and a full skirt.

Who designed it? The dress was created by Jolie's favourite design house Atelier Versace – and her children.

Her children? Yes. The dress was covered in drawings by the kids which were embroidered on by Versace with the help of its master tailor Luigi Massi.

That's unusual. What did Jolie say? "Luigi is like family to me and I couldn't imagine anyone else making this dress," Jolie told People. "He knows and cares for the children and it was great fun putting it together."

And other than that? Jolie made the unusual choice of having the back of her dress and her long veil embroidered with pictures drawn by her children. The decision to have Versace create the gown isn't a surprise as the actress frequently chooses the Italian house to dress her for awards ceremonies and red carpet events.

Donatella Versace tweeted a picture of Jolie along with a message for the bride: 'Congratulations Angelina Jolie! You look sensational in my creation for your special day! Lots of love, DV'

What about hair and makeup? The actress kept hair and makeup simple opting for a simple bun and natural makeup.

Did anyone notice what the groom looked like? He is a Hollywood superstar after all... Pitt also went down the traditional root with a black suit and tie combo. And had pretty messy hair.

And the rings? They came from Robert Procop, the same jeweller that created Jolie's engagement ring.

Did the children do anything else? All the couple's children had a role to play in the wedding with Maddox and Pax walking their mother down the aisle in smart black suits. Zahara and Vivienne were flower girls in pretty white dresses and Shiloh and Pax were ring bearers.
