Coleen Rooney shocked pundits and bookmakers today by donning a little black dress to Ladies' Day - the most important fashion date in the horseracing calendar.

The Wag and model had been expected to wear "spring" colours with bookies taking good money on bets for pastel tones or rich colours.

But the 24-year-old arrived at Aintree with her entourage in the black dress with silver trim and her hair in a pony tail.

She wore black Christian Louboutin shoes with red soles.

Wayne Rooney's wife had been tipped to wear the colour "nude", with the bookmakers offering 5/2 and 5/4 on purple.

George Primarolo, of Totesport, said money came in on black after Coleen's husband's Manchester United team were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

He said: "Black was at 5/1. We did have a few bets on black because United were knocked of out Europe and people were thinking she would be in mourning.

"There is always a good response to this kind of bet, the fashion bet. We are not talking huge sums and we have probably broken even on it."

Coleen was not the only woman under scrutiny today.

Thousands of glamorous women have arrived at the Aintree racecourse looking stunning.

But some some do not look quite as good even with Merseyside bathed in sunshine.

Racing pundit John McCririck said he took time out to appreciate a different kind of filly.

He said: "The Merseyside totty believe in flaunting themselves and it is tremendous, not like at Royal Ascot with their haute couture and the toffs and the designer outfits.

"They have much more curvaceous bodies here and are magnificent especially with the sunshine coming out.

"Ladies' Day has taken over from the horses. It's not like in the south, here they have proper voluptuous bodies."

Asked if he is ever tempted to use his charm on the young ladies, he said: "Girls have often said they have never seen a body like mine which is certainly very true - but they are very tempted.

"I have to keep the booby (wife) away from here. She is old now and her body is sagging."
