WHICH country will turn out the best-dressed athletes at the Olympics this month? The betting is on the Baltic state of Lithuania, which commissioned Issey Miyake to design its uniform. The results are extraordinary: white pleated windbreakers with oversized hoods that unzip to form banners printed with the country's name.

The striking uniform is completed with silver trackpants and grey cotton T-shirts and trainers. Miyake was asked to design the uniform by Edward Domanskis, a Californian plastic surgeon of Lithuanian descent, who wears Miyake himself and is the official physician for the team.

The Japanese designer loves taking on unusual commissions. He was recently approached to redesign the vestments for Winchester Cathedral, a project that is on hold while sponsors are sought.
