Kids are the new 'spa goers'

According to the manager of the newly launched Mamounia spa in Morocco, luxury spas are no longer a "secret women's club."

"We are beginning to see the 2nd generation of spa goers," Marianne Nielsen told Relaxnews: "kids who [...] come with their parents."

And she added: "When I started my carrier 23 years ago, spas were a sort of secret women's club, spas were pink and very feminine. Today's spas are all inclusive with treatments for the entire family. Today we have business incentive groups, and associations, families, wedding parties, you name it."

Nielsen's observation is in tune with Tracy Lord's: the director of the new Hong Kong MiraSpa, told Relaxnews last month that "there has been a surge in guests choosing spas for girlie parties such as bridal or baby showers or hen weekends and birthdays."

Other trends the spa expert has recently grown aware of are a high demand for yoga or meditation lessons and nutritional guidance as well as a preference for "more authentic - linked to a region and a culture - and also towards more bio products," while she warns that those products, though having "huge benefits in terms of wellbeing and general relaxation, they are no substitute for laboratory product when it comes to facial treatments."

The spa at the Mamounia hotel in Marrakech, which re-opened last year, offers a hammam bath as well as Asian-inspired (in collaboration with Shiseido) and traditional Moroccan beauty services such as a honey body scrub or rose body wrap.
