Twilight mania has previously resulted in dubious beauty trends including New York hipsters sporting fangs in nightclubs. But now skincare experts say the movie's stars' paleness is a notable trend among teenagers, possibly resulting in fewer skin cancer cases.
British paper, the Daily Star quoted Eric Jimenez, global make-up artist for Urban Decay Cosmetics, as saying: "Due to films such as Twilight, people have begun to see that pale skin can still be sophisticated, timeless and glamorous.
"We've had higher sales in our Surreal Skin foundations due to their natural-looking shades. Women are beginning to embrace their pale skin and are finding that you don't need to look bronzed to be beautiful."
This statement is cemented by reports from British Marie Claire magazine, which confirms that sales of pale skin foundation have gone through the roof since the premier of New Moon: "Cosmetic companies have seen a 200 per cent rise in customers snapping up pale foundation powders and liquids, which coincides with the Twilight: New Moon film," the magazine's beauty editors write.
"According to online beauty shop FeelUnique, its best-selling product is now a fine, pale pink illuminating powder by Bare Escentuals called Mineral Veil. Meanwhile sales of L'Oreal's True Match powder in Rose Ivory have also risen by 133 per cent."
However, the consequences of this trend are more profound than foundation sales as teenagers are shunning the sunbed. Consultant dermatologist Dr Raj Mallipeddi told the Star: "It will take more than one individual - people have to want to resemble the individual giving the message. But if that image comes in vogue then, yes, people will follow suit and ultimately that could be better for people's skin."
Other than pale skin, it just takes red lips, smoky eyes, and - for the very determined - dark-dyed hair. Here are some products to get you started:
