High fashion brands including Thakoon, Diane von Furstenberg, and Alexandre Herchcovitch have teamed up with ready-to-wear brands such as Bllack Noir, Edun, and Lalesso for an unparalleled display of stylish eco-fashion January 20.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development is not exactly what couture dreams are normally made of (and the declared occasion, the International Year of Biodiversity, doesn't really add to the glamour factor, either), but that's about to change: with the help of eco-promoting organization Greener2Greener, the group has put together a stellar lineup of international designers, willing to promote sustainable fashion.

Taking place at the Palais des Nations, the UN headquarters in Geneva, the fashion show will be the centerpiece of the EcoChic Geneva fair, which will also include seminars and exhibitions, all focusing on natural fibers, sustainable development, and biodiversity in fashion.

All designers will present unique showpieces that were created especially for the event, with some of them working with sustainable materials for the first time. Organizers said that they "embraced the opportunity to make a statement about sustainability through fashion" by turning to "their cultural heritage and country's myths and folklore for inspiration."

If that's the case, the show will not just be biodiverse: the designers' countries of origin include Brazil, Belgium, Ireland, Poland, Thailand, and Iraq.
