Gearing up for travel this holiday season? Here is a list of some top-rated international restaurant and dining applications for frequent travelers-Even those with special dietary needs. Stay tuned for food shopping, nutrition and cooking applications.

UrbanSpoon - (for iPad, iPhone or Android, free) Can't decide on a place to eat? Indecisive diners need just to shake their iPhones, and the Urbanspoon slot machine will pick a highly rated restaurant nearby for you to try. Users can use GPS, filter by neighborhood, cuisine or price, browse a complete list or compare restaurant picks with friends.

Foursquare - (Free for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android) Foursquare lets users check in to a place when they're there and let their friends know where they are. They can track their location history and keep track of where they've been and who they've been there with. As of October 2010, the application had more than 4 million users worldwide, and thousands of promotional deals.

Foodspotting - (Free for iPhone) Calls itself a "visual guide to good food and where to find it." This application makes it easy to find and share foods you love. Users can discover foods by craving and browse recommendations at certain restaurants. Sharing recommendations is as easy as taking a picture of the dish, with its name and where to find it. The website estimates that it has more than 120,000 users who have featured more than 90,000 foods. Available in English and Japanese.

Toptable - (Free in the UK, for iPhone) An application developed by the eponymous European online dining community and restaurant reservation service, similar to Yelp in the US. Users can search a database of localized restaurants in 15 countries and languages, including 191 Michelin starred venues. The application has more than 1.3 million registered users and more than 5,000 restaurants and offers discount vouchers to popular venues.

BuUuk - (Free, for iPhone) BuUuk is a leading restaurant and dining application in Singapore and Indonesia, and is integrated in Indonesia with TransJakarta, which enables users to see all dining options surrounding each of the city's 140 bus stops. Restaurant data is constantly updated, and fills a gap where Urbanspoon is lacking - Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The application has data for more than 75,000 restaurants in the region, and tags restaurants that offer Halal food, Wi-Fi and discounts.

Halal Food Finder - ($1 or .79 Euro, for iPhone and Android) helps users find the closest Halal restaurant, café or supermarket, anywhere in the world from its database of more than 5,000 locations, integrated with GPS tracking.

Get Kosher - ($1.99, for iPhone) is the most complete database of kosher restaurants and locations in the world, with more than 8,000 restaurants in 50 countries, updated daily. This application was launched relatively recently, and many users have complained that it needs to be updated.
