Crime writer Ian Rankin is bringing the famous Inspector John Rebus out of retirement for a one off event at the Caledonian Brewery to coincide with Cask Ale Week. Rankin penned and read a short story entitled The very last drop revolving around a fictitious murder at the Caledonian Brewery. The public have been invited to the brewery this weekend to explore the crime scene.
Camra has set up a Twitter called RealAleLive, which will be used to launch the first "Twitter Beer Tasting". Camra will be selecting the five beers which will be tasted over the evening session. There will then be a designated time for each beer to be tasted and discussed on the Twitter page. As well as sharing tasting notes with Roger Protz, and discussing his own evaluation of each beer, there will be debates running about the history and provenance of each bee. Camra has selected well-known real ale brands which are commonly available in pubs throughout the country. However, there is scope for doing regional beer tastings in the future, featuring some of the area's leading small brewers.
