I have always found this marsanne from Mitchelton to be one of Australia's best value whites for its spicy aromas and the intense character of its opulent, ripe fruit flavours. With its exotic, peachy flavours, the new vintage, screwcapped against cork taint and for retention of the balancing fresh zip, won't let you down as a stir-fry-friendly dry white.

George Orwell would have enjoyed this powerful Catalonian blend of the Spanish grapes garnacha, tempranillo and carineña with a dash of cabernet sauvignon, for its warm, fruitcake-like aromas. The ripe, raisined qualities of old vine concentration make it a suitably spicy candidate for barbecued sausages and kebabs.

A recent addition to the Sainsbury's shelves, the new vintage of this typical chenin blanc from the ubiquitous brothers Lurton in the Loire Valley is full of mouthwateringly crisp apple and pear fruitiness with a crisp Granny Smith bite to the aftertaste.
