Sunday Lunch

Bolney Blanc de Blancs 2007

Whether it's the UK gold-medal tally at the end of the Olympics or this week's A-level results, what better choice for celebration than this English sparkling, whose own Gold award in the International Wine and Spirits Competition came too late for inclusion in our English wines special in June. Wonderfully made in West Sussex by an all-female team, this is an exceptional wine: creamy and floral, a summer's day in a glass. £25.95, davy.co.uk; £25.99, bolneywineestate.co.uk

Midweek meal

Domaine du Rouge Gorge, Faugères 2010

Like last week's Laurent Miquel rosé, this comes from the hillsides north of Béziers in the heart of the Languedoc and is part of an excellent new range of southern French reds at M&S. A traditional blend of the local Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Grenache grapes, it displays all the hallmarks of the area: robust, herbal, spicy and ideal with lamb cutlets, grilled outdoors, with rosemary and garlic. £8.99, Marks & Spencer

Bargain basement

Jaume Serra Cava Rosé Brut Reserva

Back to the fizz here, this time from Spain. The addition of Pinot Noir to the local Trepat grapes gives an added and expected elegance, while some ageing delivers depth and finish, making this an attractive package for the price and a good choice for summer gatherings. And the fact that this is drier than most cavas makes it particularly attractive with tapas, such as tomato bread with ham. Three days to take advantage of the price… £4.99 (until 15 August; normally £12.99), Tesco
