Food Agenda: MAD Foodcamp and Food and Drinks Asia

New York Times story published this week credited René Redzepi, chef of Copenhagen restaurant Noma, with launching a new culinary trend they called the 'Nordic invasion.' Redzepi hosts an inaugural MAD FoodCamp vegetable festival in Copenhagen this weekend, which is attracting celebrity chefs like David Chang and Andoni Aduriz. It's also drawing disciples in the same way El Bulli did. Also this week, the 15th annual Food and Drinks show in the Philipppines, which includes a Mixology and Flairtending Cup. The show attracted 28,500 attendees last year.

At this year's New Orleans conference, Robin Goldstein, food and wine critic and founder of the Center for Sensory Perception and Behavioral Economics at the Culinary Institute of America, will be the featured speaker. Goldstein is also a regular contributing writer to The New York Times' Freakonomics blog and has authored nine books.

7th Annual Gluten Free Expo

MAD Foodcamp Festival

René Redzepi, chef of Noma - voted the world's best restaurant by members of Restaurant magazine's academy - will be organizing a vegetable festival in Copenhagen that pays homage to wild, edible plant life, which features prominently in his restaurant's dishes. Known for foraging for his own greens, Redzepi also plans to set up the largest food market in Northern Europe as part of the festival. The word 'mad' in Danish means 'food.' David Chang, celebrity chef of Momofuku in New York, and food writer Harold McGee are also slated to speak at a chef's symposium on ecology. Tickets are 130 DKK or about €17.

12th annual Specialty and Fine Food Fair

3rd annual Le Grand Fooding

The first installment of Le Grand Fooding in New York is the Campfire Session, a one-day event that aims to explore the relationship between music and food. A beef and chive salad by Basque chef Inaki Aizpitarte of Le Chateaubriand in Paris, for instance, is paired with DJ James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. Le Grand Fooding is a spin-off of the French gastronomy group Le Fooding. The second installment of Le Grand fooding plays on a French surrealist technique called Exquisite Corpse in which artists collaborate on a painting with their own contributions. For 52 hours, 12 rotating chefs will build a menu each taking an ingredient from the previous chef's meal. The cast of chefs are some of the hottest in the world, including Corey Lee of Benu, Sat Bains of Sat Bains in the UK, Massimo Bottura of Italy and Armand Arnal of La Chassagnette in France.

New this year is an inaugural tribute dinner that will pay homage to Jacques Pépin and Prince Robert of Luxembourg. Other festival events include Fried, where TV personalities like Bob Blumer and Tyler Florence get creative with southern fried chicken, and culinary demonstrations by Food Network personalities like Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Giada De Laurentiis and Paula Deen.
