On May 3, The James Beard Foundation (JBF) held their annual Awards Gala in New York City. Here is a selection of the chef and restaurant winners including "Outstanding Chef", "Rising Star Chef of the Year" and "Best New Restaurant."

Outstanding Restaurant Award: Daniel, Daniel Boulud and Joel Smilow; New York City
Outstanding Service Award: Alinea, Grant Achatz, Chicago, Illinois
Outstanding Wine and Spirits Professional Award: John Shafer and Doug Shafer, Shafer Vineyards; Napa, California
Outstanding Wine Service Award: Jean Georges, Bernard Sun (wine director); New York City
Rising Star Chef of the Year Award: Timothy Hollingsworth, The French Laundry; Yountville, California
Despite the fact that nearly all the winners are from New York City, there are a number of other award-winning places to dine across the US.
