New York burgers wrap up European tour
Monday 13 December 2010
McDonald's has taken "New York-style" fare on a journey across Europe in 2010, ending in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
A lineup of five "I Love New York" burgers named after NYC neighborhoods are currently on offer at McDonald's in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Since the first week of November, diners have been able to choose one of five New York burgers each week:
Brooklyn Classic (beef patty, bacon, cheese, lettuce, red onion, sesame bun)
Manhattan Grilled Chicken (grilled chicken breast, crispy bacon, honey mustard sauce on a wheat baguette)
SoHo Grande (beef patty, spicy salami, cheese sauce, salsa, onion bun)
Broadway Chicken (crispy chicken, cheese sauce, onion, bacon, chili, everything bun)
Wall Street beef (beef patty, bacon, swiss cheese, barbecue sauce, sesame bun)
Also on offer are "Finger Foods" like Sladká Srdi?ka (Sweet Hearts, which are fried heart-shaped apple-raisin curd fritters) and "Classic Salty Cheese Donuts with Ham."
Starting on December 13, Czechs and Slovakians can enjoy any of the five burgers, when they make a final ensemble appearance until January 2. The burgers cost approximately €3.50 ($4.60) à la carte and €5 ($6.60) as part of a meal.
A generic "New York" burger has made its way across Europe as well, under McDonald's American city-themed burger promotion, which happens for five weeks every year in the UK and elsewhere, including Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Japan. In other countries, the promotion featured a Chicago Supreme, New Orleans Deluxe, Miami Melt, Texas Grande, and of course a New York Special. Interesting enough, all of the American city burgers contain bacon (except the Texas).
New York-style sweets made an appearance in McCafes in Germany in the form of cupcakes named after NYC neighborhoods this past April. The flavors were: East Village (cappuccino), Chelsea (chocolate), Soho (vanilla) and Central Park (strawberry).
The NYCrispy (bacon, fried onion, cheese, barbecue sauce) introduced as part of a limited-time summer menu in 2009, is still available on Spanish menus.
A McDonald's spokeswoman said on December 9 that the New York burgers will not be offered in other European cities for the rest of the year.
