Parents have been left baffled by McDonald's new Happy Meal toy, which seems to shout profanities when shaken.
The figurines were made to tie-in with the Minions movie and spout a number of phrases when slammed on desk.
Here's what one humourless dad had to say on the matter:
"On a recent road trip we ended up having to stop to grab my daughter a bite to eat. Due to the remoteness of where we were there weren't many options. We stopped at one of the 2 places to get food to go so that my daughter wouldn't be hungry. Luckily she didn't find interest in the toy. After finding it and hearing it go off, my wife brought it to my attention and we both heard the same thing. Though Minions speak a language all their own, this little caveman minion spoke something that just didn't seem quite right. You decide for yourself, but from what I hear it's not good."
Is this McDonalds toy saying: "What the fuck"? https://t.co/mouZJiWLas— Adam Gabbatt (@adamgabbatt) July 9, 2015
Not good indeed! God forbid our children learn how to swear properly at a young age rather than getting it wrong and being hurtful when they're older.
Anyway, naturally McDonald's insists the toys aren't screaming "f**k".
"Minions speak 'Minionese' which is a random combination of many languages and nonsense words and sounds," a representative told The Hollywood Reporter. "We’re aware of a very small number of customers who have been in touch regarding this toy, and we apologize for any confusion or offense to those who may have interpreted the sounds for anything other than jibberish. The allegation that this toy is saying any offensive phrase is not true. Any perceived similarities to actual English words are purely coincidental."
The rep added that phrases are supposed to say "para la bukay," "hahaha," and "eh eh."Reuse content
