Starbucks launches new healthy 'bistro' menu
Wednesday 13 July 2011
Starbucks has launched a new range of healthy premium 'Bistro Boxes' that includes options like chipotle chicken wraps, sesame noodles and salumi and cheese.
The healthy grab-and-go boxes clock in at below 500 calories and also come in snack options like tuna salad and chicken and hummus.
The selection of eight convenience packages, in North American locations this week, was developed, the company says, to address rising consumer demand for more nutritious, portable snack and meal options. Prices range from $4.95 to $7.95 US and $5.45 to $6.75 CAD.
The company has also launched a VIA version of their Caramel Flavored Iced Coffee, an instant-mix pack designed for a standard 16 oz. (473 ml) water bottle that comes in packs of five.
Between July 14 to 17, customers in the US will also receive a free beverage with the purchase of any Starbucks VIA Ready Brew pack.
The product launch follows on the heels of a launch from fast-food rival McDonald's which brought back its Premium Asian Salad with Grilled Chicken to join a roster of new salad options this summer.
Similarly, Burger King is rumored to be in the midst of a major menu overhaul, with added options that include a new chicken and apple salad with blue cheese and an Asian chicken salad with edamame, red cabbage and sesame lime vinaigrette.
Here's a quick look at some of the Bistro Boxes:
Chipotle Chicken Wraps: Grilled chipotle-spiced chicken, pepper jack cheese, soft whole wheat tortillas served with lime-cilantro slaw, avocado, and roasted tomato salsa.
Sesame Noodles: Sesame noodle salad tossed with broccoli florets, carrots, red peppers, sugar snap peas and a creamy peanut dressing, served with a cucumber carrot salad, crunchy sesame peanuts and baked tofu with slightly spiced lime glaze.
Chicken Lettuce Wraps: A build-your-own-wrap with red lettuce leaves and Cantonese-inspired chicken filling. Served with chopped peanuts and a mix of fresh vegetables including cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, cilantro and peanut sauce.
Salumi and Cheese: Slow-cured prosciutto and traditional peppered salami are paired with Asiago cheese, rustic crackers and marinated Greek olives.
