Top 50 restaurants with most scenic views dominated by Californian eateries
Friday 29 July 2011
Chances are if you're looking for a dining room with a view, you'll find it in California.
At least that's according to the more than 10 million reviews on the online reservation site OpenTable.com, which found that half of the 50 restaurants with the most scenic views on their list, as voted by its users, came from the coastal state.
The city of San Diego claimed the most winners with eight restaurants, followed by the Bay Area, New York City and Washington DC.
The winning restaurants were whittled down from more than 12,000 potential eateries in OpenTable's archive of restaurants.
Among the winners is Island Prime in San Diego which was singled out by diners as a scenic favorite. Resting on stilts in the San Diego Bay, the restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows provides panoramic views of the city skyline. The restaurant specializes in artisan steaks and surf and turf.
La Costanera on Montara Beach also received high praise from its diners for the restaurant's wall of windows, which provides an airy, light atmosphere. The Peruvian restaurant received a nod from the 2011 Michelin guide which praised the fresh ceviches of calamari, octopus and prawns in a spicy aji, their tender lamb chops and pisco cocktails.
On the east coast, Manhattan restaurant Top of the Tower was given top marks for providing 360° views of the city from the 26th floor of the Beekman Tower Hotel. The restaurant serves contemporary American cuisine with Italian influences, including Piedmontese Filet, eggplant ravioli, wild mushrooms and Swiss chard.
Meanwhile, Condé Nast Traveller Magazine compiled a list of restaurants from around the world that offer the best scenic views last year. For a more global perspective, visit http://www.cntraveller.in/content/restaurants-best-scenic-views.
