The Hundred-Foot Journey, a novel written by Richard Morais and published in July
, is captivating foodies and chefs around the world from Anthony Bourdain to
New York
Magazine's 'insatiable critic' Gael Greene.
Foodies have moved on from Julie & Julia ($8/€6) and Eat, Pray, Love ($24.95/€19) to The Hundred-Foot Journey ($23/€18), a story about a middle-aged Indian Muslim chef who finds his calling as a haute cuisine chef in Paris and relives the journey.
On July 19, Greene tweeted, "A must read for food-obsessed, ‘The Hundred Foot Journey' by Richard Morais."
Padma Lakshmi, author of Tangy, Tart, Hot and Sweet ($29.95/€23) and host of Bravo TV's Top Chef, describes the book as "Very charming and a delight to savor ."
And, Anthony Bourdain, author of Kitchen Confidential (Kindle $13.97/€11) and Medium Raw ($14.57/€12), said, "Outstanding! A completely engaging human story heavily larded with the lushest, most high-test food porn since Zola. Easily the best novel ever set in the world of cooking -and absolutely thrilling from beginning to end. I wished it went on for another three hundred pages."
Morais explained, "I wanted my friend, the late film producer Ismail Merchant, to make a film that would marry his love of film making with his love of cooking. When I couldn't find a novel that fit the bill, I sat down and wrote one."
