This week: Anuga, Germany's major food tradeshow ends and Paris gears up for the 46th edition of SIAL and In-Food 2010 on October 17.
Ten food tradeshows devoted to fine foods, drinks, meat, fresh foods, frozen foods, dairy, bake goods, organics, foodservice and retail/tech co-located to bring together over 160,000 industry professionals from 180 nations. Special trends to be explored for market in 2011 include halal products, regional specialties, functional foods and finger foods. Tickets range from €28-86.

The annual international Balaton egg festival celebrates everything eggs with a variety of dishes, birds, music and dance.
Carts in the Parc

Celebrity gastronomist and Travel Channel host Andrew Zimmern launches his Carts in the Parc event taking place during New York City Wine & Food Festival. Tickets are $100 (€81) while available and offer a tour through global street food without the hunt for the famous trucks and carts like Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, Jamaican Dutchy and The King of Falafel. Also expect to see chefs showcase their best bites on the
go including Joe Ng (creative dumplings), Michael White (Norwegian meatballs), Zak Pelaccio (Asian BBQ) and even restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow's concept food court.
SIAL and In-Food 2010
SIAL is a professional global marketplace that focuses on innovation and trends in the food industry every two years. SIAL is co-located with In-Food 2010 dedicated to food ingredients. The first SIAL took place 46 years ago, and continues to introduce cutting-edge products from over 185 nations. This year over 150,000 attendees are expected to take part in a series of events including the Health-Nutrition Village, Gourmet Experience and Wine Innovation Forum. Tickets range from €69-100.
Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2010
The 8th edition of this event includes a slow food component that explores the connection between farm to market/table and sustainability for "a new geography for Planet Earth" in Turin, home of the slow food movement. The program ranges from tastings, kitchen gardens to slow wine and street food with participants ranging from artisan producers, academics, chefs, and wine and food enthusiasts. A day pass is €20 and children under ten years are free.
Food Ingredients India 2010 (Fi)
Fi takes place annually in Europe, Asia and India. This event welcomes the professional food ingredient trade (75 exhibitors from the region and Europe) to Mumbai to capture the taste buds of one of the fastest growing "urban middle class" (25 million annually) in the world. Key products focus on health (sugar-free low calorie foods) as well as "value-added" products. Tickets are based on number of modules and range from $130-772 (€99-590).
Gwangju World Kimchi Culture Festival

The 17th annual festival celebrates the fermented Korean cabbage staple kimchi with international interpretations, tastings that include kimchi rice rolls and kimchi tacos plus 100 kinds of kimchi made in Korea and a hall devoted to the "five healthiest foods in the world."
Sweets & Snacks China
INTEX, Shanghai, China
Approximately 8,000 trade buyers convene to source new snacks and sweets from over 150 sweet and snack brands (bake goods, ice cream, confectionaries) from around the world with large pavilions representing China, Germany, Malaysia, South Korea and the Philippines. And, the public can enjoy sampling sweets on October 30. Visitor pre-registration is required for free entry.
Salon du Chocolat
October 28-November 1
This outrageous 16th annual traveling event devoted to the art and trade of chocolate stops in Paris and continues on to New York, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Moscow and Madrid throughout 2010. Similar to past salons the hosting nation will highlight local talent with chocolate demonstrations, awards and a "choctabulous" fashion show. Sao Paulo, Brazil
The 7th annual Latin American BioFach is part of the world's largest fair for organic products that takes place throughout the year in China, Germany, Japan, India, North and South America. This year's program highlights slow food, organic school food initiatives as well as showcases a host of new organic products including baby food, deli meats and frozen foods. Day tickets at $15/€11 and a 3-day pass is $35/€26.
Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair

The 3rd annual event boasts all things alcoholic to drink and "friends of wine" like specialty food items (baked goods, sweets, nuts, dairy products, seafood, pasta, cooking oils and preserved foods). A highlight of the fair is The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition, the world's first "authentically Asian and largest pan-Asian" "wine, spirit and food pairing competition," which includes awards for Best Wine with Sashimi, Dim Sum, Kung Pao Chicken, Braised Abalone and Peking Duck. The professional trade event is open to the public (adults aged 18+ only) on November 6 with tickets priced at HK$200/€19.
The 57th annual Zurich wine expo offers a variety of city-wide wine tastings and knowledge-building experiences with winemakers from more obscure regions globally with a focus on German wines. Various events are free; to see the lineup go to:
Oktoberfest is over and now the European market gets down to the business of beers and soda. Over 34,000 professionals are expected to review over 1,400 new products and technologies for making the best beverages with a focus on industry trends, logistics and marketing.
