Dog and cat flea and tick treatment: effective ways to protect your pet from the pet medicine company

As a pet owner you are sure to want the best for the animal members of your family. Good health is essential for your pet’s well being and happiness and they rely on you to help them stay healthy. Fleas are a common health problem for cats, but an effective cat flea treatment can help.

Frontline spot on cats is one such treatment available on the market. It not only treats but also prevents infestations of fleas and ticks in cats, as well as controlling infestations of biting lice. It is suitable for use on cats over eight weeks of age and weighing at least one kilogram. An important thing to remember, if you have both cats and dogs, is that you must never use a dog flea treatment on a cat as this can be fatal.

Other ways of treating cat fleas are also available from The Pet Medicine Company; flea collars are a good preventative measure and are available in many different sizes, colours and styles including glitter, diamante and velvet. You can also purchase wet weather flea collars and reflective flea collars for safety.

Specialist flea combs can also be used to remove the fleas from an animal’s fur. And in the case of ticks you can buy tools that will enable you to remove the whole tick from your animal, easing their discomfort instantly.

Fleas are common in cats, but can cause serious problems as they cause itching which can be extremely uncomfortable for the cat. If a cat tries to chew, scratch or lick the itch this can cause the skin to become red, inflamed and severely irritated; untreated broken skin can also lead to infections.

Dogs are also prone to getting fleas and the signs to watch out for are the same in both animals. You may see actual fleas on your dog or cat but more commonly you will see small dark flecks of ‘flea dirt’ in the fur or on the skin. Any scratching, licking, chewing or discomfort can also be a sign of fleas.

Like cats, dogs need treating to prevent fleas, Frontline dog flea treatment is an effective treatment and preventative measure, which will protect your dog from fleas, ticks and biting lice.

If you think that your pet has got fleas then it is advisable to take them to the vets to get this confirmed. If they have got an infestation then it is important to treat your house as well as any other pets that you may have.

All in one flea sprays are available that you can use on your pet and your home. These pesticide free sprays work by immobilising the flea or tick. A good quality spray works against fleas and ticks at all stages of the life cycle, helping to stop infestation.

It is important to treat your home as well as your pet for flea infestation as flea larvae and eggs can live in carpets, rugs and other soft furnishings. In particular, pay attention to any warm areas that your pet may like to spend time such as near to or underneath radiators.

Obviously you must also treat any other pets in the home to prevent the re-infestation of fleas or lice among your animals.

Fleas are just one aspect of an animal’s health that needs to be considered. Worms are another parasite that needs preventing. Both cats and dogs can suffer from worms and they can be harmful to owners too. De-wormers are available for cats and dogs and your animal should be treated as soon as possible.

It is also important to ensure that your pet is registered with a vet and vaccinated against the various diseases that can cause pain, distress and ill health.

Preventative pet medicine is something that all owners should consider. As well as routine costs for things such as vaccinations or worming, serious illnesses or accidents can cause vet bills to become prohibitively expensive.

Buying good quality pet medicine will give you, as a responsible owner, the peace of mind that should the worst happen your pet has access to the best possible care.

As a nation of pet lovers we want to do everything we can to ensure that the animal members of our family are well cared for. Being vigilant about the prevention and treatment of fleas, tick, worms and other infestations is one way that you can keep your pets happy, healthy and free from discomfort.
