'Ace Combat' trailer teases theater of war storyline
Tuesday 22 February 2011
A new trailer for arcade flight sim game
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, entitled "Theater of War," teases the game's near-future storyline as the series continues its transition from a fictional alternative universe to real-world cities and locations.
The player, along with NATO's forces, will be up against a Russian mercenary named Colonel Markov - the hotshot enemy pilot named Akula in earlier trailers.
There are reminders signaling one of Assault Horizon's features, close combat with slo-mo explosions, and hints that flashbacks recalling one dogfighter's previous missions will be present in the full game.
No sign yet of online multiplayer mode for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game, something which was introduced in 2006's PSP title Ace Combat X and again a year later in the Xbox 360's Ace Combat 6.
Fans of the series will still be watching and waiting for confirmation that the developers haven't become too distracted by fending off Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 series H.A.W.X. or IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey.
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is set for a 2011 release. The official website is http://www.acecombat-assaulthorizon.com.
